Psycho-educational Evaluations

Psycho-educational Evaluations are comprehensive assessments that evaluate a child’s cognitive and academic functioning.  Further tests are utilized to provide extensive recommendations to understand a child’s strengths and weaknesses and assist the child to perform to their optimal academic level. Often, a parent, school, therapist, and/or tutor recommends a child have a comprehensive psycho-educational evaluation to better understand why the child/adolescent is not functioning to their fullest potential in an academic setting.  When a child/adolescent struggles in their academic setting, a thorough psycho-educational evaluation is recommended to assess various domains.

Advocate for Academic Accommodations

AMS Wellness clinicians can be an advocate for the family when parents are seeking an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), Individualized Catholic Education Plans (ICEP), or a Section 504 plan from their child’s school.  An AMS Wellness clinician will review previous evaluations (Psycho-educational or Diagnostic Evaluations) completed by a psychologist from another practice or by a AMS Wellness clinician, meet with the school staff and parents, and advocate for the most effective modifications to increase the child’s functioning in the school setting.
